Apr 11, 2019 Breakfast with Fran Dunaway
April 11 @ 7:00 am - 9:00 am
Fran wanted a cool dress shirt, like the ones made for men, the ones Robert Graham designed, but made to fit her female figure. They were nowhere to be found. Her wife and co-founder, Naomi Gonzalez wondered aloud, “How hard can it be to start a clothing line?” So, this retired non-profit administrator turned political film producer made her next left turn into apparel design, making those cool shirts for herself and others. Initially, they shipped two hundred of them from their one car garage, completely selling out, with zero returns. Immediately adding cool new products to their line. I guess it wasn’t that hard!
As many start-up business stories go, the Kickstarter campaign to pay for the shirts needed a name… and that’s how Tomboy was born. Fran was stoked to sell her cool Tomboyish shirts and had no inclination of what was coming next—a worldwide effect on women of every kind rising up to be their bold, brazen, unapologetic, authentic, full-feminist selves. TomboyX became a love your body proud revolution!
But how did TomboyX become famous for their oh so comfortable underwear, swimwear, and loungewear, made perfectly for every size (XS to 4X)? And how did they grow from garage operations to a nationally-financed corporation, and keep their integrity in the process?
Well, you’ll need to come to WBE and hear Fran’s story to find out. Register for April 11th Breakfast
